Just for fun!

Just finished carving my pumpkin for Halloween.  Figured it was time to go all out this year.  So I got my carving and sculpting tools and made a Jack Skellington scene from scratch.  I used some black food dye to get into the crevices.  Happy Halloween!

Camera Angle 1 of 4 finished

Just finished one of my camera angles for the still shots.  I did all the comp work in Photoshop.  I decided its time move on to other projects because I could keep adding and adding up to ridiculous proportions.  I had a great time working this project.  I really was able to push my texturing skills alot further on this project.

I still plan on doing some individual prop renders to show of texturing and modeling techniques. When I have some free time I'm going to bring down the render times so that I can make an animation for a demo reel piece.

Almost there...

As of late, I've been trying to get my abandoned morgue scene up to portfolio / demo reel quality.  I wanted to delve a little deeper and go with a darker wall and floor textures.  Thinking about it now the light green concrete texture made the walls look flat.  In the meantime, I have also added plants, scattered papers on the ground and textured the majority of the props.

Over the next couple of days I'm looking to add a background outside the windows, red wild flowers, some small easy props (medicine bottles, pencils, desk lamp, manilla folders, etc).

From there I'll go on to checking for errors, rendering out passes, compositing stills and then eventually animating cameras for the demo reel portion.

After this project I may get back to the Pandalla village.

Busy, busy

As for the past few months I've been pretty busy so I haven't been able to update my blog in a while.  Most of my time has been spent working on the show Grimm as a Technical Director (freelance) at Bent Image Lab.  It's been a great experience working on CG for the show and working with the other great artists there.  Most of the work that I've done on the show has been tracking, setting up animation and render scenes, animating (here and there) and rendering out render passes as needed by the Compositors.  The episodes that I had the privilege to work on were 203, 204 and 205.  At a later time I will be more specific of what I did on the show but for now the episodes can be viewed at

I just got back into Zbrush today and I thought I would sculpt something for fun.  I really had a great time using it.  Since I've added more RAM and a bigger video card, my computer can handle alot more stress on it.  I have been using 3D-Coat for a while and I love its ease of use.  But I would say that I enjoy using the numerous brushes that are not really found in 3D-Coat.  I have not used the painting part of Zbrush yet but I'm curious to see what it can do.  But anyways here is my quick sketch of a Ninja Turtle bust.
